Discussion Question #5

What different ending could you imagine for this book?

  1. Honestly I was expecting Peeta to die, too. When he was sitting there, bleeding to death, I totally expected the gamemakers to force them to sit there until one of them died, and I was sure it'd be Peeta. Then, Katniss would go home, and live happily with her mother and Prim and spend her life with Gale. But then, there wouldn't be room for such an amazing sequel.

  2. When those wolves clung on to Peeta, I was going "FINALLLY, now he dies..." No, I'm just kidding, but I'd actually was expecting some sort of sacrifice between these two. If they both committed suicide then the book would have 20 pages probably describing their corpses or something. That would be pretty disturbing, but the Capitol's game would end and a lot of people would be disinterested in the game if Katniss and Peeta committed suicide.

  3. The end was way different as the one i thought. I thought that while the last interview Peeta was going to ask Katniss out infront of the audience and they would go home together. I don't know i think that the end of the book was kind of boring.

  4. While i was reading the book i was for sure peeta was going to die. How he was all injured and bleeding to death. It was differnt then i thought it would be. Also the changing of the rules made the book different.

  5. I could imagine Peeta dieing because throughout the book Collins made Peeta seem like he was insignificant to Katniss and just something she could use easily for protection, not a person who changes the plot greatly. I personally don't like the ending because Katniss never really figures out her feelings and you're left with an inner-turmoil that won't be ridded until the next book comes along. So if I had it my way, I'd make Peeta and Gale both confront Katniss when she comes of the train and help her understand her feelings for them. At this point I'm just frustrated because I don't know who to root for.
