Discussion Question #4

What did you like about this book?

  1. I loved the romance between Peeta and Katniss, the conflicting of Gale's presence back home, the adventure sense- You'll never guess what's coming next. I like Katniss, she's more than I could ask for in a main character, much better than, say, Bella from Twilight. I like the setting, too, it's absolutely brilliant and intricate- Specifically, I like the layout of the 13 districts and the Capitol. It's like it's a setting that's just set up for rebellion. I think the setting is actually what I like the most about the book. :)

  2. Honestly, I wasn't that interested in the romantic scene between Peeta and Katniss. I was more interested in the survival tactics that the competitors did to survive and find their enemies, I also found it very suspenseful when some of the competitors made a small mistake (ex, lighting a fire in the night) which costed them their life. I enjoyed how the competitors actually think everything through before rashly charging in. I also liked how the districts specialized in different things like district 12 spealizes in mining and district 11 specializes in 11.

  3. I think the same as Grace. I wasn't that interested in the the romance scene because at the end nothing happended. What i liked about the book was that everyone had to fight for a dream and to survive.

  4. What I liked about this book was that it was easy to understand what you were reading. You could easyly imagine what was going on. katniss hunting, trading her goods for other supplies. Her friendship with Gale and Romance with peeta. Her on the train, training and the battling in the games.

  5. My favorite part, and I keep bringing it up, are the mockingjays. I feel like they're a clear symbol for foreshadowing, hope(not always real hope), and to increase tension. Whenever something big is about to happen, the birds always get silent. If you've ever been in a forest without hearing the chirp of crickets and birds, it's an eery feel, and that's the feel I get when this happens in the book. Also the mockingjays reppresent Rue and the hope that you're not alone and there's still hope. Also the birds represent something the capital didn't expect. The birds the capital created breeded with bluejays to create this new breed because they had a will to live on. So I think the mockingjays foreshadow rebellions against the capital in the future novels.
