We are students of a Modern Novels class in Southridge High School. And we will be commenting about the book, THE HUNGER GAMES. THE HUNGER GAMES is the 1st book to the trilogy by Suzanne Collins.

Discussion Question #1
Who was the most interesting character in the book?
I think the most interesting character in the book is probably Katniss. She's really unique, and strong yet not so much. She's likable but seems the type of person you wouldn't like if you met her. It's probably that you can get into her head and learn about why she does everything for her family to keep them alive, why she goes off to the woods to hunt for food. You can tell who she truly considers to be a friend, and understand the conflict between her conscience and all logic when it comes to killing people. I think that all of that is what makes her so interesting.
From my opinion I found Peeta the most interesting character, because he kept changing sides which left me pondering which side he would end up in the end. I found it really "moving" that Peeta broke off from the Careers and barely survived after the Careers wounded him. Even though Peeta grew up as a Baker's son, I found him with a strong will where he did his best to survive. His perseverance was quite touching. 8( For example, when Katniss was attacked by the bees Peeta broke off from the Careers and they injured him, but he didn't falter to break their bond with them, which I thought was moving.
The most interesting character in the book was Katniss. She seems like a veruy good person. The way how she had to be the one who provided everythink for her family. She would go hunting with gale and the trade it for other supplies or money. She understood that she had to kill in order to stay alive, but only wanted to stay alive so she could continue to provide for her family beacuse her mother wouldnt do it.
I thought Peeta was the most complex person in the book. He always knew what to do in order to keep him and Katniss alive, and he never does anything that goes against his morals. I was debating on doing Katniss or not, but I feel Katniss was so easy to suspect Peeta during the intro to the games and when he teamed up with the careers that I thought Peeta was the better choice. Plus Katniss was so slow to understand that Peeta liked her, she seemed kind of oblivious. I like Peeta as a character because you never know what to expect fromhim, except when it comes to flirting with Katniss.
In my opinion i found two interesting characters. The first one is Katniss. I liked the way she introduced herself and she said a lot of her life. The way she lived and the way her life changed when her dad died and that her mom left her to be in charge of the family at a young age. She had to sacrifice for her sister. She fought until she won. The second character is Peeta. At the beginning he seemed childish, but he changed my idea when he helped Katniss on that rainy day by giving her some bread, even though he knew he was going to get beat up by his mom. And he also helped Katniss a lot during the hunting.
